AMELIA STĂNESCU (Romania)

AMELIA STĂNESCU made her publishing debut in 1993 with the poetry volume Căutători de cuvinte (Seekers of Words). She continued her poetic “searches” by publishing poetry, interviews, and literary portraits, while also engaging in dialogue with artists from the fields of music and the performing arts.

In 2005, she published the poetry volume Mecanica firii (The Mechanics of Nature) with Paralela 45 Publishing House, featuring cover notes by writers Varujan Vosganian and Cezar Ivănescu. The book was awarded: the “Poetry Book of the Year 2005”, by the Dobrogea Branch of the Romanian Writers’ Union, and the “Poetry Award”, from Ex Ponto Publishing House, Constanța (2005).

In 2012, she released the bilingual volume Couvertures de pluie / Rain Blankets (Așternuturi de ploaie), published by Brumar Publishing House, with: an afterword by Ioan Es. Pop, French translation by Mădălin Roșioru, and linguistic revision by J.B. Courvoisier. The book received the “Poetry Award” from the Dobrogea Branch of the Romanian Writers’ Union. In 2015, together with poet Petru M. Haș (from Arad), she published Babilon / Premeditarea (Babylon / Premeditated), a collaborative volume centered on Amazons and Scythian women (Zona Publishers, Iași).

Amelia Stănescu has been a member of the Dobrogea Branch of the Romanian Writers’ Union since 2000. She is a university lecturer and holds a PhD in Philology from the West University of Timișoara, with a thesis titled Cioran and the West, under the supervision of literary critic Professor Cornel Ungureanu. Since December 2024, she has served as the Director of the “Ioan N. Roman” County Library in Constanța.

She has coordinated various cultural festivals, including: the literary festival Primăvara Poeților / Printemps des Poètes, the interdisciplinary music and literature festival FolkFest Remember Costinești, which inspired her book-album FolkFest Remember Costinești – Nevoia de normalitate (The Need for Normality, Zona Publishers, Iași, 2019). She has organized and curated numerous literary-artistic events: poetry and music performances, roundtables with writers, book launches, public readings, and author dialogues. She is also the co-founder and coordinator (alongside poet Iulia Pană) of the literary project “Mecanici Poetice”, run by the Asociația Kulturale. Amelia Stănescu has published poetry, literary reviews, interviews, portraits, and translations in most of the major Romanian literary magazines, as well as in international publications. Selections of her poems or full volumes have been translated into: German, Italian, French, Spanish, Bulgarian, Chinese, Japanese, Hungarian, and Greek.

She has taken part in literary festivals, public readings, and book presentations in Romania, as well as in Spain, Italy, Hungary, and France.
