Ileana Popescu Bâldea (Romania)

Ileana Popescu Bâldea (born in Bucharest), poet, prose writer, essayist, she graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Bucharest and is a member of the Management Committee of the Bucharest–Prose Branch of the Writers’ Union of Romania. She has published poetry, essays, and prose in the magazines Viața Românească, Ramuri, Luceafărul de dimineață, Convorbiri literare, among others.

Her editorial debut was in 1992 with the novel Și totuși… happy-end. Selected poetry volumes include : Extrasenzorial and Anamnesis (Editura Școala Ardeleană), Ziua care îți trece prin minte (Editura Semne), Stre-suri (Editura Eikon), Zvonuri și lilieci (Editura Neuma). She has authored eight novels : Ape spre nimic, Viață, atât, Păsări și umbre (Editura Eikon, 2019), Anatomia sugestiei, Step pe o planetă sălbatică (Editura Tracus Arte, 2021), Kanaka and Bărbați singuri (Editura Școala Ardeleană – 2022, 2024), as well as a volume of essays.

For the novel Kanaka, she received the Book of the Year Award granted by the Bucharest–Prose Branch of the U.S.R. in 2020, as well as the Liviu Rebreanu Salons Award. Other distinctions include : the Literary Journalism Award of the magazine SLAST (1988) ; the Poetry Award at the Vasile Lucaciu Literary Circles Festival ; and the Cultural Social Media Award of the magazine Luceafărul de dimineață (2024).
