Acoyani Guzmán Bárcena (Mexico/Spain)

Acoyani Guzmán Bárcena (b. 1983, Mexico City). Actress, poet, playwright, and cultural manager. She studied at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and holds a degree from UNAM’s University Center for Theatre. With support from Mexico’s National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA), she moved to Madrid, where she completed three master’s degrees – two in Theatrical Performance and one in Film. She is the founder of Bámbola Teatro, a theatre company for babies, and has participated in numerous early childhood theatre festivals across Spain.

Her most recent volumes are La Patria de los Parias (2019, Invasoras), Animalario (2020, Huerga y Fierro), Cadáver Exquisito (2021, Fe de Erratas), De Gato Gordo (2022, Huerga y Fierro), Manifiesto sobre la belleza (2024, Huerga y Fierro), Ambroisie (2024, Le Chat Polaire). 

She received support from FONDART (2016, Chile) and the National Book Fund for her play What Do We Do with Moscow? She won the XI Young Short Story Prize of the Ateneo de Navarra with De Gato Gordo. First prize in the Dirty Slam Poetry of Santiago, Chile (2018) / First prize at MóstoleSlam (2019). She is the creator of the poetry jam session Fe de Erratas, currently active in Madrid. She was champion of Poetry MóstoleSlam and a finalist at the Spanish National Poetry Slam 2021. She co-founded Poetry Slam Peace and Love, Mexico (2021). Guest poet at the Voix Vives International Poetry Festival, Toledo (2021). Guest poet at Voix Vives, Sète, France (2022). Co-founder of Poetry Slam Toledo. Guest poet at the Vociferio Festival, Valencia (2024).
