Jeannette L. Clariond (Mexico)

Jeannette L. Clariond is a Mexican poet, translator, and editor. Author of acclaimed poetry books such as Mujer dando la espalda, Leve sangre, Ceguera, and Sobre la fronda y la medida, Ante un cuerpo desnudo, Las diosas del agua, she received the Enriqueta Ochoa Ibero-American Poetry Award, the Juan Ramón Jiménez Prize, and the Literary Arts Award from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. In 2021, poems from Leve sangre were presented in the National Auditorium of Spain as cantatas, composed by musician Ramón Paús.

Her translations include works by Elizabeth Bishop, Primo Levi, and Anne Carson. In 2021, she was included into Mexico’s National System of Creators and honored by France with the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. Founder of Editorial Vaso Roto and Mexico’s first Braille Poetry Prize, she’s also known for her study of ancient Mexican thought and her poetic engagement with identity, exile, and origin.
