Dumitru Crudu (Republic of Moldova)

DUMITRU CRUDU (born in 1967, in the village of Flutura, Ungheni district, Republic of Moldova) is a prose writer, playwright, poet and one of the authors of the Fracturisului Manifesto, first published in the newspaper Monitorul de Brașov. His most recent prose book – Ora cinci și șapte minute – was published in 2022, by the Humanitas Publishing House in Bucharest. For this book he received the Prose Award of the Writers’ Union of the Republic of Moldova. For The Choice of Alexandru Suțo he received the UNITER Award in 2003 and the Princess Margareta Foundation Award for the Best Play in Romania. He is the first Romanian playwright to be performed in Africa (Cameroon) and in Central America (Haiti) with the play The Choice of Alexandru Suțo.

In prose, he debuted in 2008 with the novel Măcel în Georgia and has since published seven more books of prose. He is the laureate of the Romanian Academy’s “Ion Creangă” Prose Prize for 2017, for the short prose volume Salutări lui Troţki. Two of his prose books – Oameni din Chișinău and Ora cinci și șapte minute – were translated into Czech by Petr Štengl Publishing House in Prague in 2017 and, respectively, in 2023 by Jiří Našinec. His prose book Salutări lui Troţki was published in French by Editura L’Harmattan in Paris in 2021. The novel Ora cinci și șapte minute is currently being published by Edizioni Joker, in Italy, translated by Clara Mitola. His newest book of poetry – DOAMNE! – saw the light of day in 2024, at the Prut International publishing house.
