FLORIN IARU (Romania)
FLORIN IARU (born 1954, Bucharest) is the pseudonym of Florin Râpă. In 1978 he graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the University of Bucharest. He became editor of the Cartea Românească Publishing House in 1990, and from 1991 to 1992 he was editor of Cotidianul. The writer Florin Iaru made his literary debut in 1962, by publishing some verses in the magazine Luminița. He became a member of the Cenacul de Luni in 1970, under the leadership of Nicolae Manolescu. In 1981, his volume Cântece de trecut strada enjoyed editorial success, and in 1982 he contributed to the writing of the collective volume Aer cu diamante. He is an emblematic figure of the Bucharest generation of the 1980s. Other volumes that should also be mentioned: At the Highest Fiction (Cartea Românească, 1984), I’m Going Crazy and I’m Sorry (Cartea Românească, 1990), Selected Poems (Aula, 2002), Tescani 40238 (collective volume, Image, 2000), Romanian Erotic Stories (collective volume, Trei, 2007), My First Drunkenness (collective volume, ART, 2009), Stories with a Changed Ending (ART, 2013). At Polirom Publishing House, he also published Fraier de Bucureşti (2011, 2015), a story in the collective volume Scriitori la poliţie (2016) and Sînii verzi (Green Breasts) (2017), Jos realitatea! (2019, Paralela 45 Publishing House), Ospiciile imaginației (2021, Cartier Publishing House).
