Jaromír TYPLT (Czech Republic)

Jaromír TYPLT (b. 1973 in Nová Paka, northeastern Czech Republic) is a poet, performer and art theorist. He concluded his studies at the Faculty of Philosophy of Charles University in Prague with a doctoral thesis on Czech surrealism. He has worked for many years as an art curator in galleries, and since 2022 he has been the curator of Art brut Praha, a gallery in Prague dedicated to artists who are not included in the mainstream art scene. He made his debut in books in 1990, publishing collections of poetry and books on the border between prose and poetry (Stisk, 2007, Za dlouho, 2016, Jedna věta, 2024). His most recent book is the poetry collection Pouzdří, published in April 2025 by Argo in Prague. Two of his books have been published in German translation and one in Romanian (Sau aproape, Junimea, 2020). Since the end of the 1990s, Typlt has also been creating sound poetry, for example in collaboration with composer Michal Rataj (Scribbles). Between 2020 and 2021 he spent an extended period of time studying in Paris, and also spent month-long creative fellowships in Germany in Wiesbaden (2010), Leipzig (2018) and Nuremberg (2023), and in Tianjin, China (2016).
