Grete Tartler -Tabarasi (Romania)
Grete Tartler (Tabarasi), born 1948 in Bucharest is a poet, translator, essayist, literature and music critic and a scholar (Oriental studies). She graduated from the University of Bucharest (Oriental Languages and English) and the Conservatoire of Music, Bucharest. She is holding a Ph. D. in philosophy from the University of Bucharest, 1995. She taught at the same University and also at School of Political Sciences and at the National University of Music. She also worked as an editor at the literary magazine Neue Literatur and as a diplomate.
Since her literary debut in 1970 she published numerous books of poems, essays, literary criticism, prose, literature for children. The most recent book of poetry is Troparion Today, 2025. Grete Tartler has translated prose, philosophy and poetry from and into German, Arabic, English, French, Danish a.o. She published multilingual anthologies. Her own poetry has been translated in several languages. She has been awarded for poetry, essays and translations by the Writers Union, the Academy of Letters and Sciences a.o. Most recently she received the Mihai Eminescu prize for poetry, Opera Omnia, 2025.
