MARTÍN RODRÍGUEZ-GAONA (PERU – SPAIN)

MARTÍN RODRÍGUEZ-GAONA (Lima, 1969) is a Spanish-Peruvian poet, essayist, and translator. After completing a Master’s degree at Bowling Green State University, Ohio (1998), he moved to Spain, where he was a creative writing fellow at the Residencia de Estudiantes in Madrid (1999–2001) and later worked as a cultural manager until 2005. During this period, he organised readings and lectures featuring poets such as Seamus Heaney, Jorge Eduardo Eielson, José Watanabe, Antonio Gamoneda, Daniel Samoilovich, and John Giorno.

His poetry collections include Códex de los poderes y los encantos (2011), Madrid, línea circular (2013), which received the Cáceres Patrimonio de la Humanidad Prize, Motivos fuera del tiempo: las ruinas (2020), Wunderkammer: Las musas y otras mutaciones (2024), and Millennial cantabile (2026).

He is also the author of several essay collections exploring the relationship between poetry, digital culture, and social media, including Mejorando lo presente (2010), La lira de las masas (2019), winner of the Málaga Prize, and Contra los influencers (2023), which received the Celia Amorós – Ciutat de València Prize. He also edited the anthology of contemporary women poets Decir mi nombre (2019), which explores the influence of social media and feminism on contemporary poetry.

As a translator, he has published works by authors including John Ashbery, John Giorno, Jack Spicer, Brian Dedora, and Alice Notley.
