LILIANA URSU
LILIANA URSU (b. Sibiu, 1949) is a poet, prose writer and translator. She is the author of The Sky Behind the Forest : Selected Poetry (which became a British Book Society “Recommended Translation” and was shortlisted for the Oxford Weidenfeld Prize, A Path to the Sea (both books translated by the author with Adam Sorkin and Tess Gallagher), Angel Riding a Beast (translated by the author with Bruce Weigl), of Goldsmith Market, Lightwall (translated by Sean Cotter), Clay and Star (translated by Mihaela Moscaliuc), and many other works of poetry, fiction, essay and translation published in Romania, Great Britain, Serbia, Austria, Switzerland and the USA.
She is the recipient of two Fulbright grants and she has taught creative writing at the University of Louisville, Ky, Penn State University and Bucknell, Pa .
She was 2003 Poet in Residence at the Stadler Center for Poetry and 2017 Poet in Residence at the University of Strasbourg.
Her poems were also published in prestigious magazines such as: The New Yorker, Poetry Canada, Oxford Poetry, American Poetry Review,World Literature Today, Kenyon Review, TriQuarterly.She is a finalist for PEN USA 2010.
Ursu was distinguished with Romania’ s highest national honor: the rank of Knight of Arts and Literature. She is welcomed worldwide at poetry conferences and festivals as one of Europe’s outstanding poets.
