IVAN PILCHIN (REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA)

IVAN PILCHIN (b. 1983) is a poet, translator, and literary scholar, and has served as Vice-President of the Writers’ Union of Moldova since 2021. He graduated from the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures and the Faculty of Law at Moldova State University. From 2005 to 2019, he was a lecturer in the Department of World and Comparative Literature at the same university, and from 2014 to 2022, a translator for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s Chișinău Bureau.

He currently heads the Editorial Activities Department at the “B.P. Hasdeu” Municipal Library and is editor-in-chief of the journal BiblioPolis. He has co-authored four high-school textbooks on world literature and has published scholarly studies, literary and theatre reviews, as well as numerous translations from and into Russian and Romanian.

He is the author of the poetry collections Человек-аквариум [The Aquarium Human] (Arc, 2018, 2020) and you too, Iohanan (Arc, 2024), which received the Writers’ Union of Moldova Award for Poetry in 2025. He is a member of the Writers’ Union of Moldova and the Writers’ Union of Romania.
