
ION BOGDAN ȘTEFĂNESCU
Flutist Ion Bogdan Ştefănescu is a soloist of the ”George Enescu” Philharmonic, a professor at the flute department of the Bucharest National University of Music and a soloist of the ”Banatul” Philharmonic from Timișoara. He has a doctorate in music since 2002, when he obtained the highest professional qualification at the University of Music in Bucharest, with the work entitled ”Archaic techniques and timbralities in contemporary flute creation” with the composer Octavian Nemescu as his tutor. In 1995, he obtained the ”Master of Music” degree at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, USA, where he had the famous English flautist Alexander Murray as his teacher. In parallel with his master’s studies, he worked at the University of Illinois as an assistant to Prof. Alexander Murray (1994 – 1995). Ion Bogdan Ştefănescu graduated in 1993 from the National University of Music in Bucharest, Faculty of Music Interpretation – Flute section – in the class of prof. Virgil Frâncu. Ion Bogdan Ştefănescu is a founding member of the ensembles ”Procontemporania” and ”Profil” and the founder of ”Barock Orchestra” and ”Flaut Power”. Since 2012, he has been a member of the Romanian Writers’ Union and is also active as a conductor.
