Ioan Es. Pop was born on March 27, 1958, in Vărai, Maramureş county, Romania. He made his debut with the volume Ieudul fără ieşire, Cartea Românească Publishing House, 1994. The same publishing house edited his next two volumes of poetry: Porcec (1996), Pantelimon 113 bis (1999).
