DARIJA ŽILIĆ (CROATIA)

DARIJA ŽILIĆ (Zagreb, 1972) is an award-winning poet, literary critic, and translator. She graduated in Comparative Literature and History from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. Her poems have been translated into English, Italian, Albanian, Bulgarian, Farsi, Macedonian, Slovak, Swedish, Turkish, and Slovenian and have appeared in several international publications, including Surfacing, an anthology of contemporary Croatian poetry published by Harbor Mountain Press in the United States.

A prolific essayist, she has published extensively on contemporary poetry, literary theory, and activism. She is the author of 24 books of poetry, prose, essays, and literary criticism and is the foreign literature editor of the cultural publication Vijenac.

Her distinctions include the Kiklop Award for Best Poetry Book (2010) for Dance, Modesty, Dance and the Julije Benešić Award for Literary Criticism (2010) for Muse outside Ghetto. She has also received the Orpheus Literary Award for poetry in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
