Cassian Maria Spiridon

Cassian Maria Spiridon (b. 1950, Iaşi, Romania) graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics of the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest. He founded the new series of Timpul Review as well as Timpul publishing house which he has operated since 1995. He also founded Poezia, a poetic-cultural magazine, and was co-founder and editor-in-chief of Caietele de la Durău. Since 1995 he has been the editor-in- chief of Convorbiri literare, Iaşi. He is member of the Writers’ Union of Romania, member of The Society of Romanian Journalists and of the Association of Romanian Journalists, member of the European PEN-Club and president of the Writers’ Union of Romania, Iaşi Branch.

He made his literary debut in the two famous reviews Amfiteatru and România literară. He has published over 30 volumes of poetry, literary criticism and essays. He has been awarded many prizes and distinctions (two prizes from the Writers’ Union of Romania, Romanian Academy Prize for poetry, the Order of Cultural Merit in the rank of Commander etc.). He also received the Citizen of Honour Title of Iaşi Municipality. His poetry has been translated into more than 20 languages and published in various anthologies at home and abroad.
