Cassian Maria SPIRIDON

Cassian Maria SPIRIDON was born in Iași, Romania.  He founded the new series of Timpul magazine as well as Timpul Publishing House. He also founded Poezia, a poetic-cultural magazine, and was co-founder and editor-in-chief of Caietele de la Durău. Since 1995 he has been the director of Convorbiri Literare, Iași. He is a member of the Writers’Union of Romania, of The Society of Romanian Journalists, and of The Association of Romanian Journalists, member of The European PEN-Club and president of the Writers’ Union of Romania, Branch Iași since 2009. 

He made his literary debut in the two famous magazines Amfiteatru and Romania literară. He has published over 70 volumes of poetry, critics and essays. He has been invited to poetry festivals aroudn the world (The International Poetry Festival of Medellin, Columbia, The Biennial International Poetry Festival of Liège, Belgium, The Month of Romanian Culture of Marseille, France, The Meeting of the Poets of the Latin World, Mexico, The International Poetry Festival of Havana, Cuba, Mediteranian Poetry Festivale Voix Vivre, Sete, France etc.), The 3rd Edition of Tianshui China Li Bai and Du Fu Poetry Festival (awarded with Tianshui China-Li Bai and Du Fu International Poetry Prize), International Poetry Festival from Warsaw, Poland.

He has been awarded many prizes and distinctions (Romanian Academy Award for Poetry, two prizes from the Writers’ Union of Romania, and also the Cultural Merit Order at the rank of Commander) and Honorary Citizen of Iasi. His poetry has been translated into more than 20 languages and published in various anthologies and in volumes, at home and abroad.
