ANDREI MOCUȚA (ROMANIA)

ANDREI MOCUȚA (b. January 12, 1985, in Arad) is a teacher of English and French. He is coordinator of the cultural magazine mARTA in Arad and of the culture section of the newspaper Critic Arad. He holds a PhD in Philology with the dissertation Portrait of the Artist in Absentia. J. D. Salinger: A Monograph. He published several books of poetry and prose, and his two most recent novels were released by Humanitas and Polirom. He also edited an anthology of contemporary Romanian poetry titled Ecouri din pădurea întunecată: evadări în Twin Peaks. His latest volume, published in 2026, is a verse biography dedicated to the last representative of the Beat Generation: Iubirile pierdute ale lui Richard Brautigan, published by Editura Tracus Arte.

He was twice nominated for the “Young Prose Writer of the Year” award at the “Young Writers Gala” organized by Radio România Cultural, and was shortlisted for the “Zona 9” Poetry Prize. He was also preselected for the Festival du Premier Roman, in Chambéry, France. In 2015, he received the “Audience Award” at the Poetry Tournament in Balchik, organized by the Writers’ Union of Romania.

He translated the poetry anthology Ilustrată din Chinatown by Richard Brautigan. He has attended the Salon du Livre in Paris, as well as several poetry tournaments and literary projects in Barcelona, Padua, Trieste, Podgorica, and Balchik. He has also been invited to FILTM, FIPB, and ASTRA Poetic Sibiu. He is a member of the Writers’ Union of Romania.
