ALEŠ ŠTEGER (SLOVENIA)

ALEŠ ŠTEGER is one of the most prominent contemporary Slovenian writers and a major voice in European literature. A poet, novelist, essayist, translator, and interdisciplinary artist, his work explores the boundaries between languages, genres, and artistic forms. He made his debut in 1995 with Chessboards of Hours, while The Book of Things (2005) established his international reputation. He is the author of Berlin (2007), winner of the Rožanc Award, the novel Neverend (2018), and the experimental project Written on Site (2012–2024), created in locations marked by historical and political tensions. He founded the Days of Poetry and Wine festival and the European poetry platform Versopolis. His work has received numerous international distinctions, including the title of Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters, the Horst Bienek International Poetry Prize, the Spycher Award, the Prix Alain Bosquet, and the Prix Max Jacob Étranger.
